Business Bites: Modern Collections Development (Nov 2023)

Our November business bites event was on the theme of Modern Collections Development. This was a members only event is a MEMBERS ONLY event and took place on 29th November 2023 with Mollie Horne from Abrdn Archives as the speaker.

Collections Development is an ever changing field, particularly in the world of Business Archives. Records that were of essential importance 100 years ago now have little historical value while many of the records being produced now did not exist even 50 years ago. So where do record keepers begin when deciding what to keep and what will have historical value in the years to come?

This webinar focused on the experience of the abrdn archive, where a collections development job role has been created to tackle this issue. Mollie Horne, who carries out this role, discussed her experience since she started in post and how she is working towards ensuring the most complete collection possible is kept to capture the corporate memory.

Mollie Horne is the Collections Development Archivist at the abrdn company archive. She began her career as an archivist in 2015 and graduated from the University of Dundee course in 2019. She has formerly worked for DC Thomson & Co Ltd, Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire Archives and the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. She specialises in business archives and is interested in outreach and community engagement.
